A special weekend for women in Lake Geneva

Socializing, fun and relaxation
by Matt Dolbey for Women’s Weekender
The Women’s Weekend in Lake Geneva, April 24-26, promises to take women away from the stresses of the world and focus on wellness and relaxation.
Karin Bennett, owner of Lake Geneva’s Cornerstone Shoppe, and event organizer, said the motivation behind the weekend is both economic and therapeutic.
“I think the main thing is, in today’s environment, it takes something special to motivate (people) to get some getaway time,” Bennett said. “Without a purpose and some type of incentive to make the plans, we just don’t.”
Events begin in earnest at 4 p.m. April 24, with a Women’s Weekend happy hour, at Gino’s East, located at 300 Wrigley Drive in Lake Geneva, where participants will receive a complimentary drink.
The weekend continues with a spa night, which includes appetizers, cocktails, spa treatments, intuitive readings jewelry and raffle prizes.
On April 25, women can participate in a lake path and home tour, as well as a bathing-suit-season boot camp.
The evening features a jazz concert by keyboardist Mrs. Fun and vocalists Robin Pluer and Juli Wood.
Pluer is a multi-faceted singer who delivers an array of vintage French ballads with a distinctive twist. Wood plays alto, tenor and baritone saxes, while Mrs. Fun brings a funky, bass-driven keyboard, combined with in-the-pocket drumming.
The weekend winds down Sunday with a morning yoga class, then an easy, entertaining Sunday-brunch cooking class.
This event is cosponsored by the Business Improvement District, Geneva Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and Lake Geneva Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Bennett said local retailers are looking for quality events to help bring more shopping traffic.
“It’s a way to combine … fun things to do with shopping,” Bennett said. “Personally, I’ve always felt that doing events that are quality for the community is a great opportunity to increase the visibility of Lake Geneva (and increase return visitors).”
The registration fee of $50 per person includes most activities. For more information on the event, call (262) 248-4416 or visit www.lakegenevawomensweekend.com.
